Curing Crime is a collaborative effort dedicated to

  • Exploring the use of science & medicine to curtail crime.

  • Studying the medicalization of crime and related behaviors and the cures prescribed by scientists, doctors, professionals, and politicians.

  • Encouraging studying themes in the history of science and medicine in diverse geographical locations.

  • Promoting the use of history, philosophy, and sociology of science to inform individual decisions and policy making.

  • Encouraging everyone to reflect on the past to inform decisions made in the present.

Curing Crime is largely a collaborative effort between Christian Orlic and Lucas Heili. Both Christian and Lucas have other newsletters.

Christian Orlic coordinates this collaborative effort. He invited Lucas Heili to explore some aspects of the project, and Lucas got interested and decided to join. We will list the author who is primarily responsible for the post first.

Christian has been interested in the history of science since he took a course exploring the impact of Darwin, Freud, and Einstein when he was 14. He recently completed a master’s degree in History at Harvard Extension. In this project he studied a troubled teen center. Christian has over eleven years of teaching experience. Most recently, he was at Copperfield International School, where he worked as the Head of Education. Before working at Copperfield, Christian was at Leysin American School as a Visiting Scholar, where he initiated a collaboration to create interactive and engaging laboratory activities related to evolution and genetics. Christian worked at the American School of Barcelona for five years, where he taught various courses and developed a service learning trip. Christian has also taught at Michigan State and the University of Minnesota while taking graduate courses.

Christian attended Michigan State University, where he obtained a BA in History; a BA in Political Theory & Constitutional Democracy; a BSc in History, Philosophy, Sociology of Science; BSC in Zoology. Since then, Christian has completed two Master’s degrees in Education. The first was in the teaching of social studies at Teacher’s College (Columbia University), and the second in Education and Globalization at Moreland University. He recently graduated from Harvard Extension with a degree in History and was in the Dean’s list.

Lucas Heili is studied Global Communications Management at Blanquerna - Ramon Llul. Lucas has a multicultural background having lived in four different countries across Europe and Latin America. He worked as a research assistant for the faculty’s research department, focused on Catholic Media and misinformation. He also worked as a Junior Associate at Moonbase Capital where his role was focused on marketing, communication and client-advisor relations. Most recently Lucas worked at another advertisement firm.
